JESSICA MONK

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH FOR AUGUST 2006

TBH President Debbie Holt Congratulates Jessica Monk and her husband, Bill  (also a TBH volunteer) at the month meeting of the TBH Board of Directors.

Many of our volunteers may not know that we have a donated voice mail system and some of our volunteers retrieve and process messages left by the public on line 1.  This line is monitored in three shifts from 8:30am through 10:00pm Sunday through Saturday, 365 days a year.  Our Voice Mail Receptionists are trained to inform the public about Tampa Bay Harvest, route inquiries from potential new volunteers, food donors and recipient agencies to the appropriate person in our organization to follow up, and ensure that unexpected issues or problems with any transport routes are quickly communicated to management for resolution.

Jessica has been volunteering with TBH for 13 years and is very busy as one of our Voice Mail Receptionists.  Jessica has kindly offered to cover most of the unfilled openings throughout the week.  Typically she covers 70%+ of all of shifts that we are looking for a regularly scheduled volunteer to staff.

Jessica is relentless in resolving issues that arise during our normal food transport activities.  She is usually able to find a solution when a back-up transport volunteer is needed, even if it means having her supportive husband Bill to go and deliver the food.  Our management staff is grateful to have Jessica dedicated to our cause.

When she is not on Voice Mail duty, she moonlights with the County Elections office as a Clerk, plays Mah Jongg weekly and travels with Bill, who is President of the Florida Council of Chapters of the Military Officers Association of America.

Don’t Put It Off.  Put TBH in Your Will

It is human nature for people to put off planning their estates.  That’s why a majority of Americans still do not have a will. If you die intestate, without a will, Florida will decide how your Estate is allocated.  Decide yourself.  Prepare a legal will.  If one of the goals for your estate us to help the less fortunate, remember Tampa Bay Harvest in your will.  That way you can, in effect, continue your volunteering efforts after you’re  gone.
